港英時代早期，華人對港島北岸維多利亞城嘅約定俗成嘅稱呼，同官方定出嘅維多利亞城嘅範圍大致相同。四環係四個比較大嘅分區，分別係西環、上環、中環、下環（現時灣仔、銅鑼灣）；九約就係四環分區裏頭更加細緻嘅劃分區域。
