Comparison on two parties' contributions in a collaboration. Usually used when the contribution distribution is disproportional; while "chicken" (gai1) means the larger part, the soy sauce (si6 jau4) means the smaller part, one side provides more than the other. Literally means "you provide the chicken, I provide the soy sauce." Order can be reversed "...provide the soy sauce, ...provide the chicken." The side who provides the soy sauce is normally perceived as getting the better of the exchange, while the side providing the chicken is seen as getting the shorter end of the stick.
